A limited edition of 200 artist edition books was created with the artist Cheryl Donegan. Donegan hand-dyed the covers of the books, creating a unique one-of-a-kind artwork on each piece.
Aspen Art Press’s catalogue Cheryl Donegan: GRLZ + VEILS is published to accompany her traveling museum exhibition, organized by the Aspen Art Museum and on view from June–December 2018.
New York–based artist Cheryl Donegan (b. 1962) is well known for her integration of performance and video with painting and installation, and her subversive spin on issues pertaining to gender, sex, and art. This first substantial survey of her work examines her paintings, and includes new, highly conceptual work that continues to transgress traditional media, often merging painting with fashion and appropriated imagery gleaned from pop culture.
Featuring texts by Anja Aronowsky Cronberg, Bill Arning, Daniel Baumann, Bob Buck, Johanna Burton, Wade Guyton, Rem Koolhaas, and Heidi Zuckerman, the publication offers a poignant and introspective look at Donegan’s multilayered practice.
