Hours and Arrival


Aspen Art Museum is open from 10 AM to 6 PM daily from Tuesday–Sunday.
Admission to the AAM is free courtesy of Amy and John Phelan.

Use the main entrance of the Marx Phelan Building on East Hyman Avenue and be greeted by our front desk for information on the exhibitions on view.

Our Education Workshop is an interactive area designed for personal reflection and hands-on engagement. This space offers books, games, and art activities tailored for younger toddlers while remaining open to all age groups. Come explore!

The Museum Shop is a specially curated shop in the Street Level of the Aspen Art Museum that includes unique items for all ages and artist-made souvenirs. Purchases support the artists and Aspen Art Museum’s artistic and public programs. Aspen Art Museum members receive a 10% discount.

Complimentary wheelchairs are ready for use at all museum entrances on a first-come, first-served arrangement. If you have any inquiries or need help, don’t hesitate to approach our staff. Additionally, portable stools can be borrowed at no cost and are accessible by asking any staff member at the main lobby. Feel free to bring your own motorized wheelchairs or personal mobility devices—they’re more than welcome here! For details on accessibility within the museum, click here.

A Safe Space for Our Community


At the Aspen Art Museum, we celebrate creativity, openness, tolerance, and generosity. We aim to be an inclusive place—both onsite and online—where diverse cultural, artistic, social, and political positions are welcome.

We’re committed to working together to create a safe experience for our team and visitors, and our professionally trained staff are here to help you. We have a zero-tolerance policy for individuals who endanger staff, visitors, artwork, or any museum property, or who engage in verbal or physical harassment, discriminatory or threatening behavior, or otherwise interfere with the experience of others. The museum will refuse or revoke admission to individuals who violate these policies. For everyone’s safety, please follow the instructions of security officers.

Health and Safety


COVID-19 vaccination and masks are no longer required but strongly recommended for all visitors.

Your health and safety are our priority, however, we cannot guarantee you won’t be exposed to COVID-19. By entering the Aspen Art Museum, you assume the risk of such exposure.

Please contact your healthcare provider and do not visit the museum if you feel sick or have a cough, sore throat, shortness of breath or trouble breathing, fever, chills, loss of smell, or muscle pain, or if you have been exposed to COVID-19.

Policies and Procedures

Service Animals


Service animals are welcome at the AAM. The ADA defines a service animal as any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. Service animals matching these criteria are allowed in the galleries. Pets or companions are not allowed in the museum. Emotional support animals are not considered service animals, and will not be permitted into the Aspen Art Museum.

Photography & Video


Personal photography is welcome in most of the Museum’s public spaces and galleries. Exceptions to this will be noted either near the artwork, prior to entering the gallery, or in the gallery guide.

Flash, speed flash, tripods, and other camera equipment are not permitted.

Parking


Street parking is available on the city blocks around the museum, with handicapped spaces available on S Spring Street. Parking is also available at the nearby Rio Grande Parking Garage.

Bag & Coat Check


For your convenience and the safety of the artwork, we kindly request bags and coats be checked into the coat room located on the Street Level, to the right of the Museum Shop. Lockers with combination locks are provided free of charge. Coats are permitted into the galleries, if they remain worn throughout the entirety of your visit. Visitors are responsible for removing all valuable from their bags before storing them.

Food & Beverages


Outside food and beverages are not permitted into the Museum. Food and beverages are available for purchase at the Swedish Hill Café, located on Level 3. Food and beverages are not permitted into the galleries, the Education Workshop, or the Museum Shop. Strollers


We kindly request that you store your stroller in the coat room.

Bikes & Bike Shoes, Skis/Snowboards & Ski Boots


Bike racks are located on E Hyman Street (in front of the Museum) and on S Spring Street. For safety reasons, ski boots and cleated bike shoes are not allowed in the museum. Please plan ahead and bring a change of shoes for your visit to the Museum.

Gallery Etiquette


We ask that visitors do not touch or stand closer than 2 feet of any artwork unless otherwise noted or requested by a member of the AAM staff.

Cell Phone Use


Cell phones are permitted in the museum. Out of respect for other visitors, we kindly ask that you take calls or have conversations outside of the gallery spaces.

Free Wifi


Complementary WiFi access is available, with the strongest connection being located on Level 3.

Sketching in the Museum


Sketching with a pencil is permitted in the galleries and on Level 3, unless otherwise noted. Please refrain from bringing ink, paint, markers, or easels to the Aspen Art Museum.

Museum Guides


During your visit, you will find museum staff throughout the building. Guides, located in the gallery spaces, are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Restroom Locations


Restrooms are located on the Lower Level, Street Level, and Level 3 of the Aspen Art Museum. All restrooms are wheelchair-accessible. Most restrooms have baby-changing stations. All-gender restrooms are located on the Lower Level and Level 3.

Smoking & Vaping


Smoking of any kind, including the use of e-cigarettes, is prohibited within the Aspen Art Museum. Smoking and vaping will set off the fire alarms, resulting in a mandatory evacuation of the entire building .

Weapons


Firearms, explosives, or other dangerous or deadly weapons are prohibited on premises. This includes open and concealed carry. This restriction applies to all visitors, including those with firearm permits. Active law enforcement personnel are authorized to carry firearms on premises.

In-House Photography Disclaimer


Please note that photographs and footage will be taken throughout the Aspen Art Museum by our in-house photographer. These images and footage may be used by the Aspen Art Museum for marketing and publicity in our publications, our website, and social media.

BIKE & BIKE SHOE, SKI RACKS & SKI BOOTS Season-dependent bike and ski racks are located on South Spring Street. For safety reasons, ski boots and cleated bike shoes are not allowed in the museum; the museum provides slippers at the Visitor Information Desk on the Street Level for your convenience. BAG & COAT CHECK For your convenience and the safety of the artwork, we always encourage bags and coats to be checked into the coat room located at Street Level. We do require all backpacks and bags larger than 12 x 7 x 14 inches (width x depth x length; 30.5 x 17.8 x 35.6 cm) to be checked. Coats must also be checked unless worn throughout the entirety of your visit. Visitors are responsible for removing all valuables from their bags before storing them. STROLLERS We encourage you to store your stroller in the coat room. FOOD & DRINK Outside food and drinks are 
not permitted in the museum. Beverages and food are available for purchase at the Rooftop Café on Level 3 and are only permitted in the café—they may not be carried into the galleries or other areas. Special requests may be accommodated in the Education Workshop with advance arrangements. ARTWORK We ask that visitors do not touch the artwork or stand closer than two feet of any piece unless otherwise noted or requested by a Guide. GUIDES During your visit, you will find museum staff throughout the building. Guides are happy to answer any questions you may have—whether it’s about the art on view, where the nearest restroom is, or where to find a place to sit. RESTROOMS Restrooms are located on Street Level, Level 3, and the Lower Level of the museum; they are all wheelchair-accessible and most have baby-changing stations. All-gender restrooms are located on the Lower Level and Level 3. PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO Personal photography is welcome in most of the museum’s public spaces and galleries. Exceptions to this are noted with the no-photography icon either near the artwork label or prior to entering the gallery. Flash and tripods or other equipment are not permitted. SKETCHING Sketching with a pencil is permitted in the galleries unless otherwise noted. Sketchpads should be no larger than 8 1⁄2 x 11 inches (21.6 x 27.9 cm); ink, paint, markers, or easels are prohibited. CELL PHONES While cell phones are permitted in the museum, out of respect for other visitors, we ask that you please take calls or have conversations outside of the galleries. WIRELESS ACCESS Complimentary wireless access is available at the Rooftop Café on Level 3. SMOKING Smoking of any kind, including the use of e-cigarettes, is not permitted anywhere in the museum. This will set off our fire alarms and the whole building must be evacuated. WEAPONS Firearms, explosives, or other dangerous or deadly weapons carried either openly or concealed are not permitted on the premises. This applies to all visitors, including those with firearm permits, but not to active law enforcement personnel authorized to carry firearms.
