Continental Drift

Oct 19, 2012-Nov 25, 2012
Continental Drift featured seven Colorado-based artists whose work explores the idea of place. Ranging from specific studies of both historical sites and contemporary ruins to abstract and conceptual examinations of space, works included in this exhibition demonstrate a collective preoccupation with place and setting that together form a continuum spanning the intimacy of the bedroom and the grandeur of the cosmos. While some works unearth a history specific to Colorado, others reflect an interest in the ideas and objects that define these sites and establish the contours of spaces we all inhabit. The exhibition included works in film, photography, sculpture, painting, and drawing, as well as installations that reflect the idea and experience of place in manifold ways. Artists included: Christina Battle, Scott Johnson, Jeanne Liotta, Sarah McKenzie, Adam Milner, Yumi Janairo Roth, and Edie Winograde.

Continental Drift was organized by the Aspen Art Museum and Museum of Contemporary Art Denver and co-curated by AAM Curator Jacob Proctor and MCA Denver Associate Curator Nora Burnett Abrams.

Exhibition lectures at the AAM were presented as part of the Questrom Lecture Series and AAM educational outreach programming was made possible by the Questrom Education Fund.
