Jay Heikes: Buried in the Bright

Feb 17, 2012-May 4, 2012
Jay Heikes’s work explores the artistic processes of evolution and regeneration as well as themes of stasis, corrosion, texture, and alchemy. In both nature and culture, Heikes is interested in the idea of life cycles and the notion that mutation and change are essential elements of the creative process. His project for the AAM’s New Site Commissions, Buried In The Bright, combined found and constructed elements, including an eighteen-foot piece of Mississippi River driftwood and a mummy-like fiberglass cast of the artist’s own body.
AAM Future Home site exhibitions were funded in part by the AAM National Council. Works were created as part of the New Aspen Art Museum Site Commissions. Exhibition lectures were presented as part of the Questrom Lecture Series and educational outreach programming is made possible by the Questrom Education Fund.
