Aspen Art Museum

September 23-28, 2014

During the week surrounding the transition into the fall season, the Aspen Art Museum invites the culturally ambitious to explore a series of talks, performances, and a film.

The Autumn Equinox, a fleeting moment when day and night are of equal lengths, allows us to consider the notion of balance and pose such questions as: What attracts us to places, people, and ideas? To making or learning?

All events take place at 637 East Hyman Avenue and are free of charge except where otherwise noted.

September 23, 6:00 PM: Magnetism Talks

A presentation from Alexander Provan, editor of Triple Canopy, as well as a conversation between Gabriel Kuri, artist, and Heidi Zuckerman Jacobson, Nancy and Bob Magoon CEO and Director, examining forces of attraction in art.

September 24, 1:00 PM: Guided Tours

Spotlight tours of current exhibitions led by museum staff.

September 25, 6:00 PM: Architecture Lecture Series: Janneke Bierman

Examination of what architects balance when building cultural institutions. Janneke Bierman discusses how her Netherlands-based architectural firm negotiated space, openness, and transparency for the Stedelijk Museum’s renovation project of the ‘s-Hertogenbosch modern art museum facilities.

September 26, 6:00 PM: Burgers, Beer, and Bluegrass

An evening of food, drinks, and music on the museum’s Roof Deck, accompanied by a special menu of burgers and beer served up in the café SO. $25 per adult/ $10 per child (under 12 years of age). For more information and to RSVP, please email events@aspenartmuseum.org.

September 27, 7:00 PM: Martin Creed Performance

Turner Prize–winning artist and musician Martin Creed performs an acoustic set on the museum’s Roof Deck, featuring music from his recently released album Mind Trap.

September 28, 8:00 PM: Sunday Cinema, Art and Craft (2014)

Directed by Sam Cullman, Jennifer Grausman, codirected by Mark Becker Mark Landis has been described as one of the most prolific art forgers in US history. Matthew Leininger, a tenacious registrar who ultimately discovers the decades-long ruse, sets out to expose Landis’s philanthropic escapades to the art world. Before the free screening begins, a special dinner menu is available starting at 6:30 p.m. with prior registration. Prix Fixe Dinner at SO: $35 per adult / $20 per child (under 12 years of age).
