Turn your summer pool time into an artful experience with this phone-shaped inflatable float! Created in collaboration with iconic artist Cindy Sherman and Third Drawer Down, this metallic silver silk-screened float features Sherman’s artwork Oops (2017) and references the artist’s popular series featured on her Instagram page @cindysherman. Packaged in a gift box, it also sits inside a functional, transparent PVC drawstring swim bag with the artist’s signature quote: “I’d rather be swimming.” Each purchase benefits Friends of + POOL, a nonprofit organization building a water-filtering swimming pool in New York’s East River. This rare, open-edition art object is also perfectly suited to any artlover’s bookshelf or as a sculpture installed in the home!
Sherman (b. 1954, Glen Ridge, New Jersey) is known for exposing how culture shapes appearances, shattering conformities through her portrait-based photography. One of the most influential artists of our time, the New York–based Sherman, first came to prominence in the late 1970s with a group of artists known as the Pictures Generation. Recent exhibitions include a nationally touring retrospective exhibited at Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (all 2012); and the Dallas Museum of Art (2013). Sherman will be the subject of a solo exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London, in 2020.
