This fall, explore science-fiction films that negotiate translations of time and space through the program Klaatu Barada Nikto, presented by the AAM and Aspen Film. This phrase, drawn from the 1951 film The Day the Earth Stood Still, serves as the inspiration for the title of Yto Barrada’s exhibition at the AAM as well as a reminder of our human need to find understanding.

The film program begins with the source inspiration for Yto Barrada’s exhibition Klaatu Barrada Nikto. In this sci-fi classic, an alien lands on Earth and tells people that they must live peacefully or they will be destroyed in order to protect other planets.
