Five Anderson Ranch Arts Center Studio Coordinators with diverse disciplinary & artistic practices will present a multipart, all-ages activation that focuses on elements of craft, construction, creative ingenuity, and play (with friendly competition) for their Aspen Art Museum gallery activation.
For their program, Ranch activators will choreograph pre-existing sculptures within the exhibition to create an “obstacle course” that visitors may navigate freely to discover, explore, and play in and around. The Anderson Ranch staff will supply a flexible wooden lattice to create a woven wall structure that participants will help assemble. Participants will then decorate with paint and visitor-created stickers. Echoing not only the architectural elements of the AAM’s Shigeru Ban–designed museum itself, these woven wood elements will also be used to create a ramp to facilitate aspects of a deluxe-sized skateboard/skate project for both single and group riders. The gallery activation will also feature strategically placed baskets for the purposes of creating an arena for a game of gonzo-style, wastepaper-basket basketball.
