This after-school program for kids in grades K–4 is held weekly at the Aspen Art Museum from September through May. Taking place most Wednesdays from 2:30–4 p.m., these workshops recognize the value of exposing children to the arts at an early age and use the artist’s process as an educational tool. Museum educators and teaching artists lead classes that include activities in the gallery and take-home projects.
Classes are limited to fifteen participants. Prior registration is strongly encouraged.
Elena Filipovic is Director and Chief Curator of the Kunsthalle Basel. She was Senior Curator at WIELS Contemporary Art Centre, Brussels, from 2009–14. She co-curated the 5th Berlin Biennial (2008) and coedited The Biennial Reader: Anthology on Large-Scale Perennial Exhibitions of Contemporary Art (2010). She is the AAM’s 2016 Curator in Residence.
This season, the AAM’s Movies at the Museum program presents films that complement Mickalene Thomas’s exhibition Mentors, Muses, and Celebrities. The program draws on true stories of strong female protagonists, each of whom overcomes adversity in ordinary and extraordinary ways while challenging us to imagine a better world.
