Break out of the mold by using traditional sculpture methods and materials to create greener spaces. Inspired by the artworks of Fischli and Weiss, we will use concrete and plaster to fabricate a variety of built landscapes for natural environments, inspired by the plant and animal life found in and around Aspen Center for Environmental Studies’ Hallam Lake.
Join us on Wednesday, June 21, at 5:30 p.m. for a members’ walkthrough of the museum’s building-wide summer exhibition Wade Guyton Peter Fischli David Weiss with AAM Nancy and Bob Magoon CEO and Director, Heidi Zuckerman, and artists Wade Guyton and Peter Fischli. Opening Reception to follow at 6:30 p.m.
Join us for a restorative program designed specifically for our valued veterans, military families, and local first responders.
Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m.
Anna Gaskell was born in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1969, and currently lives and works in New York. Her carefully planned photographs, films, and drawings are often self-reflective, ethereal, and dream-like. Her work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at institutions including the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, the Menil Collection, Houston, Des Moines Art Center, and Aspen Art Museum.
A magic touch is needed to transform familiar objects into extraordinary artworks! We’ll use what we find in the studio as inspiration for new drawings, paintings, and three-dimensional works that come to life through our unique perspectives and creative stories.
Check out Aspen through a new lens, visiting landmarks and hidden gems around town with an artist’s eye. We will respond to stories heard from local experts through photography, sketching, and collage techniques. A beautiful travelogue will be the result of our explorations as a keepsake of the experience.
Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m.
In this special performance, Marc Ribot presents a live guitar score to the classic silent film, The Kid, contemporizing this classic Chaplin film to a story relevant to the economic and social conditions of today. Ribot, who Rolling Stone describes as “emotive, graceful, but with a glint of mischief in his method,” has released over twenty albums and performed with Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, Elvis Costello, and more.
