The AAM is celebrating the opening of our new summer exhibitions on Thursday, May 31, beginning at 5:30 p.m.! Join us for delicious snacks from SO Café, free wine and beer, music by local DJ Lo_G, and a complimentary art-making activity for all ages on Level 3.
At 6 p.m., AAM Curator Courtenay Finn will present an Artist Toast alongside exhibiting artists Yto Barrada, Larry Bell, and Paula Hayes. The Galleries will be open throughout the evening, and Curatorial and Education staff will be on hand to talk about the exhibitions.
Active Art invites seniors to engage in the social dimensions of art. Each month, museum Educators bring free, memory-enhancing activities to the assisted-living communities of Whitcomb Terrace in Aspen and Heritage Park in Carbondale, and also host art making on the museum’s Roof Deck Sculpture Garden with complimentary refreshments.
Participate in a restorative program designed specifically for our valued veterans, military families, and local first responders.

Create vibrant works of art in this mixed-media workshop inspired by the rainbow! We will explore the magic of the visible spectrum to learn how our eyes see color. Then we’ll create an array of brightly colored artworks using traditional and nontraditional materials, including construction paper, wallpaper, and candy.
Make handfuls of lucky charms and personal pocket-sized sculptures in this workshop inspired by the little bitty objects found in our very own pockets! Whether kept for good luck or given away, these small pieces will be magnified in a surprising way at the end-of-the-week party.

Monthly drop-in Family Workshops at the AAM are designed to provide children and adults free opportunities to explore the galleries and create works of art on their own. Families are encouraged to communicate, reflect, and produce as artists together.
All Family Workshops are free of charge and are first come, first served for families with children ages 3–10. Workshops begin in the Education Workshop, giving families choices for self-guided or Educator-led activities and art-making stations.
