Filmed with rich technicolor splendor and the constant beat of a samba and bossa nova soundtrack, this film was recognized with awards including the Palme d’Or at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival and the Best Foreign Language film at the 1960 Academy Awards.

As part of the opening of Rashid Johnson’s exhibition, a special dance performance will be presented within the gallery space. Choreographed by Claudia Schreier, this newly commissioned work responds to Johnson’s Anxious Men series, including themes of displacement, isolation, recognition, and comfort.This event is free, but ticketed on a first come, first served basis.
The AAM is celebrating the opening of Rashid Johnson’s exhibition (Galleries 2 & 3) and John Armleder’s exhibition (Gallery 1) on Wednesday, July 3, beginning at 5:30 p.m., with a ticketed performance and gallery walkthrough with the AAM’s Nancy and Bob Magoon CEO and Director, Heidi Zuckerman! Join us for delicious snacks from SO Café, free wine and beer, music, and a complimentary art-making activity for all ages on Level 3.
