Into the Wood is a new pop-up, interactive installation by Los Angeles–based artist Adam Stamp. Created for ArtCrush 2021 and presented by L'Officiel Magazine, Into the Wood will provide a backdrop for Aspen Art Museum visitors to be photographed.

The installation consists of three distinct scenes, each with wood as the focal point: a saccharine, sparkle-fantasy Aspen tree field, a neglected nightclub WC, and a backcountry Rocky Mountain hut with references to Dutch still life. Along with the scenic backdrops, Stamp employed his practical occupation as a commercial costumer/wardrobe stylist to offer a small range of costumes for portrait subjects to don.

Portraits can be purchased for $500. A package including portraits in all three scenes can be purchased for $1,200. All portrait purchases benefit the Aspen Art Museum, and members will receive a 20% discount.

Into the Wood will be presented alongside Stamp’s AAM bar-installation, The Slippery Slope, in full service for the first time since it’s construction and debut in December 2020. Together these works typify Stamp’s interest in sculpture that serves. While said service might appear trivial, Stamp’s waggish treatment stirs issues of class, aspiration, desire, and regret.
