Presenting a wide range of themes, film screenings at the AAM reveal important perspectives of filmmakers and artists of our time.
About the Summer Series
Political activist Emma Goldman was once admonished for dancing at a party, told that her activism would be taken less seriously. Her famously attributed response, “If I can’t dance, I don’t want to be part of your revolution,” claims the role of the body within the political. This summer’s Movies at the Museum program explores various expressions of dance: a means of protest, a way to overcome adversity, and a declaration of independence.

In 1960s Baltimore, dance-loving teen Tracy Turnblad auditions for a spot on “The Corny Collins Show” and wins. She becomes an overnight celebrity and trendsetter, pursuing stardom as a dancer while rallying against racial segregation.
Films are presented free of charge on Level 3 at 8 p.m. Drinks and free popcorn are available at the museum café, SO, from 7:30 p.m.
