Join Heidi Zuckerman, AAM Nancy and Bob Magoon CEO and Director, for a tour through the exhibition Second Chances. Zuckerman will provide insight into the curatorial framework of the exhibition through her own perspective as well as those explored in the works of the various artists on view.
All ages are invited to meet Lizi Boyd, author/illustrator of Flashlight, as she provides a presentation of her studio process as well as a reading and signing of her book. This free program encourages budding youth and adult bookmakers alike to explore storytelling.
AAM Members are invited to stay on to create their own flashlight-inspired collages with Lizi Boyd.
Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturdays at 1 p.m.
Give new life to forgotten objects and transform the everyday into beautiful works of art! In this Workshop, students will create unique sculptures and mixed media works by giving recycled materials a second chance.
Have you ever taken a picture of a picture? In this Workshop, where photography mixes with a game of show-and-tell, we’ll use our cameras to snap our most prized possessions such as toys, books, posters, and even music to create new works of art that document who we are, what we like, and what’s cool!
Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m.
Monthly drop-in Family Workshops at the AAM are designed to provide children and adults free opportunities to explore the galleries and create works of art on their own. Participants get to know one another better through engagement with new artists and ideas. Families are encouraged to communicate, reflect, and produce as artists together.
Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m.
Move beyond the canvas in this tactile, experimental Workshop. We will take inspiration from Rodney McMillian’s mixed media works to create sculptural paintings that defy what we expect a painting to look like. We will incorporate fabric and other nontraditional materials to make active, energetic artworks that will surprise even the artists themselves!
FULL. Wait-list available
How far will you go to reach your dreams? Inspired by the exhibition The Blue of Distance, this Workshop will explore how the color blue is related to wishes and longing. Taking cues from the artists in the exhibition, we will use photography, drawing, sound, and sculpture to create a group student exhibition that expresses our aspirations.
