Monthly drop-in Family Workshops at the AAM are designed to provide children and adults free opportunities to explore the galleries and create works of art on their own. Participants get to know one another better through engagement with new artists and ideas. Families are encouraged to communicate, reflect, and produce as artists together.
Free, drop-in spotlight tours led by museum staff are offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 1 p.m.
Move beyond the canvas in this tactile, experimental Workshop. We will take inspiration from Rodney McMillian’s mixed media works to create sculptural paintings that defy what we expect a painting to look like. We will incorporate fabric and other nontraditional materials to make active, energetic artworks that will surprise even the artists themselves!
FULL. Wait-list available
How far will you go to reach your dreams? Inspired by the exhibition The Blue of Distance, this Workshop will explore how the color blue is related to wishes and longing. Taking cues from the artists in the exhibition, we will use photography, drawing, sound, and sculpture to create a group student exhibition that expresses our aspirations.
A sense of adventure is needed for this Workshop where students will embark on real and imagined adventures at Hallam Lake and the Aspen Art Museum. Inspired by the exhibition The Blue of Distance, participants will hike across the meadows, imagine floating up to reach the sky, and make artworks that explore our relationship with the color blue. Artworks in all media will emerge as visual records of these exciting journeys. Collaboration with Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES). (FULL, Waiting list available)

Conceived as a space for artists to share their current practice in an intimate setting, this Workshop will be hosted by Rodney McMillian, using his AAM exhibition and publication as a departure point for conversation and activity.
Join Rodney McMillian for the launch of the publication produced in conjunction with his Aspen Art Museum exhibition, Landscape Paintings. In this special event, McMillian is available to sign his book, which provides a focused survey of the contemporary artist’s painting practice.
What would a book about your life look like? For everyone with a love for words and art, this Workshop is for you!
